Venezuela orders US missionaries out of indigenous communitites.

This is an article from Mission Network News about New Tribes in Venezuela. Keep them in your prayers:

Venezuela (MNN)--The countdown has begun for the expulsion of New Tribes Mission from the areas where they're working in Venezuela.

On Monday, the Ministry of Justice and Interior published an order revoking NTM's access to indigenous territories that has been in effect since 1953.

Prior to the order, President Hugo Chavez, in a public speech, accused the agency of destroying Indian cultures and spying.

The organization has 160 missionaries and staff in Venezuela. They have repeatedly denied accusations of wrongdoing and are making all attempts to set the record straight.

New Tribes Mission's Nita Zelenak says it's not as bad as it sounds. "This order only requires that the missionaries leave indigenous areas. At least for now, we're still in the country. We have 90 days both for the missionaries to continue ministering and also 90 days to appeal the order."

Zelenak clarifies that they are not being asked to leave the country, or even to stop their work immediately. "For the next three months, the evangelistic work can continue, and so, one of our prayer requests for folks is to be really praying for the missionaries, as they seek to continue to stay focused on their ministries even as they prepare for the possibility that they will have to leave after 90 days."

Allyson

Today, I'm praying for my friend Allyson who is in a land far, far away. I pray for her protection as she prepares to serve the Lord there. I also pray for her language school work that she will learn the language quickly and easily. She requested prayer for some friends and acquaintances over there, and I pray for them too. Lord, please hold Allyson in the palm of your hands right now . . .

Neil and Carol Anderson

I received an email from Neil and Carol Anderson the other day. They have returned to Ukarumpa (Papua New Guinea) from the Folopa village. Here is some of there email:
During the first two weeks in the village Neil and the village pastor, Paul Hons, and translators Oliver Kasa and Tom Bese worked through the creation of a curriculum for the 5 day workshop. Each days' lessons were worked out with the overall goal in mind to help the eleven Folopa pastors use the newly translated scriptures to teach and preach from. Others from the neighboring villages were expected to attend as well but we were surprised that over one hundred people wanted to actively participate. Adding to the general atmosphere were twenty or so children who played in and around the church building. Neil had a first hand lesson on why PNG preachers tend to yell more than talk. No sound system and lots of competition necessitates the raising of the voice.

Neil was the principal presenter with Paul, Tom, and Oliver helping with the daily sermon planning exercises. The last day Neil came down with a cold and juuuuusst made it with his voice. The next day he was almost voiceless.

A second goal of the workshop was to clearly present the message of grace and salvation that the Bible teaches. The booklet that was created during our last stay (July 2005) with selected verses focusing on these topics was given to each pastor. They were shown how it could be used as a source for bringing a clear message. The response was very good and each pastor wanted more copies to take back with them. We were sorry that we ran out of materials and were not able to produce many more. We plan to try to get some booklets printed at Ukarumpa to send out.

Most of these pastors heard the scriptures read in their own language for the first time and understood despite dialect differences. All seems to comprehend the passages very well once it was read and studied.

All in all, the event was very positive and the pastors are anxious to do it again next year before the dedication of the New Testament in January 2007.

Keep them in Prayer as they move to a new phase of their life. Thanks.
